On December 14, 2009, the U.S. Supreme Court granted review of the 9th Circuit’s controversial 2008 decision in Quon v. Arch Wireless. Quon held that a police officer had an expectation of privacy -- enforceable through the 4th Amendment -- in private text messages he sent using city-issued wireless pagers. The Supreme Court case is entitled Ontario, CA v. Quon.
